Young Scholars, Future Employees: Quad Holds Class in Careers
Working with non-profit partner SHARP Literacy, Quad’s Pewaukee, WI plant hosted more than 150 students for a hands-on learning experience and introduction to the prospect of a career dedicated to marketing experience.
SHARP Literacy is a nonprofit that enhances the learning experience of Milwaukee-area students through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM)-based experiential programs. Quad’s partnership with SHARP Literacy developed in 2019 from a long history of connections between the two organizations and a series of books that Quad printed.
The visiting third- and fourth-grade students are enrolled in SHARP’s “Design Through Code” program at Hadfield Elementary and La Casa De Esperanza Charter School in Waukesha, WI. They receive regular classroom visits from SHARP educators who develop their programming skills through writing algorithms and debugging code.
The field trip kicked off with a plant tour. The plant team highlighted Quad’s inserter machinery, paper storage and a digital press that produces books with variable data. After a coding workshop, the students learned about the wide range of careers that Quad offers. Finally, students broke into small groups for a competition to design the most appealing cover for a fictional travel magazine.
