Director Internal Communications

Quad is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Internal Communications to lead the strategy, planning, and execution of internal communications that shape our employee experience and culture. This role is critical in fostering engagement, alignment and transparency across the organization. The ideal candidate will excel in building trusted relationships, managing communication channels, and aligning messaging with our employee value proposition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Communication Leadership:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for large-scale employee experience projects, supporting HR, legal/compliance and other parts of the company
    • Establish program positioning, messaging, tone, and tactical plans to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Relationship Management and Collaboration:
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with Quad, Rise and Betty leaders, as well as other cross-functional program owners.
    • Facilitate collaboration, insights, and feedback to address company culture challenges and create alignment on shared company goals.
    • Plan and lead discovery, ideation, and problem-solving sessions with key stakeholders to ensure alignment.
  • Employee Experience Integration:
    • Maintain a holistic perspective to connect initiatives across Quad and its agencies to ensure cohesive communication that enhances understanding and supports our organizational culture.
    • Design and implement feedback mechanisms from employee and management to address knowledge gaps and refine our approach to informing and educating employees. 
  • Content and Channel Management:
    • Oversee the company intranet approach and content strategy, ensuring content is accessible, engaging, and aligned with organizational tone and supports company objectives.
    • Act as lead editorial voice of internal channels including intranet, digital screens, large group info dissemination (eg, cascades, etc) as well as poster development. 
    • Lead content creators on effective communication techniques and ensure all messaging supports the employee experience.
  • Measurement and Reporting:
    • Define and track key performance metrics for communication programs.
    • Share insights, lessons, and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
  • Editorial Excellence:
    • Write, edit, and oversee high-quality content that informs, inspires, and aligns employees on Quad’s aspirations, and the employee role in getting us there.
    • Leverage strong editorial judgment to deliver clear and impactful communications.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and develop a team responsible for internal communications, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 8-10 years of experience in internal communications or editorial leadership roles, with a proven track record of managing strategic programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong storytelling, writing, editing, and project management skills.
  • Experience with digital communication tools and managing intranet platforms.
  • Metrics-driven approach to program evaluation and improvement.
  • Ability to navigate change, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to consistently uncover newsworthy story ideas to generate a pipeline of messaging for Quad’s internal audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (writing samples requested)
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented project management skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in HR communications or employee engagement strategies.
  • Familiarity with organizational culture-shaping initiatives.
  • Strong facilitation skills for stakeholder meetings and problem-solving sessions.
